Dowies Love Child

I absolutely love Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. but then I would, I just love all of Waters' solo rock albums. And the period of Pink Floyd when he was the main driving force ie Wish You Were Here to The Final Cut.

Re: Slagged of albums that you really like
I don't know if it was slagged off or not but I do know a lot of people hated it but I loved "Pros and Cons of hitch-hiking" by Roger Waters.
Other albums I give a nudge occasionally which a lot of people have little time for are:
Welcome to the pleasure dome - Frankie goes to Hollywood.
Second coming - The Stone Roses
Mule Variations - Tom Waits
Warren Zevon - Warren Zevon

Another Weller addition... 'Confessions of a pop group' by The Style Council. A few of Weller's best songs imo (Changing of the guard, It's a very deep sea, The little boy in the castle (although i think that was Mick Talbot?), The gardener of Eden and the eponymous song.

Agreed. 'Too Rye Aye' certainly wasn't slagged off - quite rightly, it's superb - it's the ubiquitous title track at weddings that has done for it and the subsequent reappraisal of suddenly discovering you have an Irish heritage. Few if any of those albums mentioned so far were considered poor at the time.

This is why there is no such thing 'bad' music, someone somewhere will love a song/album which others cannot stand.
Your post is a great example. Argus is in my top 10 albums of all time and i went out and biught Tapestry as a 12 year old and still listen to it now.

And like Tak said earlier, paying heed to critics is pointless,if you like something then you wont be swayed by someone who has no time fot it.

Re: Slagged of albums that you really like
The other side of the coin is albums that everyone raves about, but dies nothing for you subjectively.

At the risk of upsetting one or two on here, albums that every once in a while I try again to see what the fuss is about include:

Wishbone Ash - Argus. sorry but it just sounds like a mediocre 70s rock album to me.

Camel - Rajaz. I'm very sorry indeed, because despite me generally really liking the later Camel albums, Rajaz doesn't grab at all and I don't know why.

Carol King - Tapestry. I did try, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

Re: Slagged of albums that you really like
I see people are missing the whole 'albums that were slagged' thing now.

Critics almost wanked themselves senseless over Four Way Street.

Re: Slagged of albums that you really like
I never really liked Atom Heart Mother.
Meddle is favourite as, the one with dog apart, every tune is superb and Echoes is genius.
Also love The Wall, Piper, Wish you were Here and Saucerful of Secrets.
The final cut does nothing for me and the less said about the post Waters stuff the better.

I'm another big fan of Atom Heart Mother.

It's Floyd, Jim, but not as we know it.

Re: Slagged of albums that you really like
I've long championed Atom Heart Mother and simply don't see why it's now regarded as being 'poor'. It wasn't at the time. 'Passion Play' though is truly awful.
